Prioritizing Human Connection

With so much of life being conducted through a screen, Peculiar Games & Hobbies seeks to focus on human connection again. Especially within the last two years, the entire world has seen a shift to a virtual world and has also experienced the lack of community and belonging within that virtual world. At Peculiar Games & Hobbies, you can come in to play your favorite games with your favorite people. It’s also a great way to meet new people with similar interests and hobbies.  It’s a unique business in Peculiar that takes us all back to the basics of having fun and enjoying one another.

Game Offerings

There’s something for everyone at Peculiar Games & Hobbies. They keep a wide array of games available for guests to enjoy. There are games for children 18 months and older that range from educational to fun, or even both! If you’re seriously into board games, you can find popular games available for use like Warhammer 40,000 and Magic The Gathering. You can also bring your own game in to enjoy with others! Gamers from Lee’s Summit, all the way down to Archie are known for spending hours in the game room at Peculiar Games & Hobbies. They also host gaming tournaments on a regular basis.

House Rules

Owners Pat and Kim want this space to be a space free of stressors and the weight of everyday life. If you come in here, you’re here to enjoy a game and the company of others. Avoid talking politics or getting into heavy topics, as this is a space to let go, relax, and come together. You’ll also notice there aren’t any electronic games available to play. There may be electronic components in some of the games, but Peculiar Games & Hobbies is meant to bring us all back to basics and help us find connection outside the world of virtual living. We all spend so much time online that they try and maintain the integrity of in-person connection.

Gaming Logistics

If you are interested in stopping in or want to bring a group down for a game, head down to Peculiar Games & Hobbies which is located in the Pizza Hut building, right next to Sonic, off highway 49. They are open Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM. They are closed Wednesdays, but their extended weekend hours make up for that. On Friday and Saturday, you can enjoy the game room from Noon until 10:00 PM.

Gamer’s Paradise

You’re never too old to enjoy a board game or challenge yourself with a strategy game. For centuries, humans have been using games to connect with one another and have fun, and that will never change. We are so grateful that this community has a business that sees the value in games and wants to keep that gaming fire alive.
